Gold Coast Chiropractic is the Scoliosis Experts for Children and Adults in the Chicago area and Illinois.

At Gold Coast Chiropractic our Scoliosis program recognized that this condition is progressive and if left untreated will continue to impact the lateral bending and twisting of the spine. Scoliosis can occur at any age, including adulthood. The most common type of scoliosis is Idiopathic Scoliosis, which is a term meaning “unknown origin.’ Idiopathic Scoliosis most frequently develops during adolescence and can aggressively progress if left untreated.

Idiopathic Scoliosis can sometimes show up in adolescence (AIS). Girls can begin to show signs around the ages of 11 or 12. Boys can show signs at around 13 or 14 years of age. When signs of scoliosis begin showing at an earlier age (at around 3 to 10 years old), it can be a sign of a more serious and progressive condition, requiring treatment as soon as possible.  Early detection and prompt treatment can help prevent the condition from worsening and in many cases can improve or correct the scoliosis.

Gold Coast Chiropractic brings a specialized and effective approach to scoliosis rehabilitation. With the unique combination Chiropractic Biophysics and ScoliBrace bracing, we have found highly successful outcomes. Additionally, we work directly with leading scoliosis experts at ScoliCare in Sidney, Australia, to provide the absolute best scoliosis treatment options for our patients.

What are the long-term risks of scoliosis?

The most severe risk of progressing scoliosis is surgery. While in some cases it may be unavoidable (and a clinic success would be to postpone it as long as possible), early proper treatment is essential. Scoliosis can lead to abnormal postures which can decrease a child’s self-image, lead to awkward socialization and studies have shown lower rates of marriage. In addition, while studies haven’t shown any decrease in life expectancy, they have shown a lower quality of life for persons with scoliosis.
